What To Do After A Car Accident In Torrance

Accidents on the road can be overwhelming. However, to safeguard your safety and defend your legal rights, you as a victim must do the following as quickly as possible, provided you are still able to:

  • Prioritize Safety — If possible, move your car to the side of the road to prevent further collisions. Turn on your hazard lights to alert others while you wait for the authorities.
  • Keep Calm — Stay on the scene and remain composed. Check for injuries on both you and other parties. When talking to them, do not accept blame.
  • Call 911 — Report the collision to the authorities. They will document the mishap and provide a formal report that you can use to bolster your future claim.
  • Collect Information — Get the other parties’ names, contact details, and insurance information, then offer yours. Take photos of all the cars involved, capturing the license plates and any damage.
  • Do Not Admit Fault — Give the police a thorough explanation of the accident, but avoid stating anything that can be interpreted as an admission of fault. Just talk about the facts.
  • Seek Medical Attention — Seek medical attention as quickly as possible, regardless of how minor the injuries seem. Some symptoms may take time to manifest. To support your claim, you will also require medical records.
  • Notify Your Insurance Provider — Notify your insurance company of the accident. Follow their instructions to report the crash correctly.
  • Don’t Handle Insurance Adjusters Alone — If the insurance adjuster for the other party gets in touch with you, simply give them the necessary information. Do not accept any offers or make any recorded statements without legal counsel.
  • Preserve Evidence — Ensure that all relevant paperwork, including the police report, medical bills, information on the other driver, and medical records, are well-documented.
