Steps To Take After A Bus Accident

Accidents can be stressful, but knowing what to do can help you handle the situation better. Staying prepared and following a simple plan can help you protect yourself and your rights and keep good records. Here’s what to do if you’re in a crash if you’re still able to do so:

  • Stay calm. Keep calm and check yourself and others for injuries and damage. Stay cool and focused during this stressful time.
  • Move to safety. If you can do so, pull your car over to the side of the road. Turn on your hazard lights to warn other cars and find a safe spot to wait for help.
  • Dial 911. Call the cops right away. They will write down what happened in the accident and make a formal record, which can help your claim later on.
  • Share information. Exchange names, phone numbers, and insurance information with the other driver(s). Take pictures of the cars, their license plates, and any damage for later use.
  • Don’t admit you’re at fault. Avoid saying anything that sounds like you’re accepting responsibility. Focus on the facts, and don’t say sorry.
  • Get medical help. Go to a doctor or hospital as soon as possible, even if you feel okay. Some injuries might not show symptoms right away, but they can still have long-lasting effects.
  • Tell your insurance company right away. California law says you must report it quickly. Contact them as soon as you can and do what they say.
  • Be careful with insurance adjusters. If the other person’s insurer reaches out to you, watch what you say. Don’t make recorded comments or accept offers without talking to a lawyer first.
  • Sort your documents. Keep all documents about the accident, like police records, medical bills, and insurance details, in a neat file for later use.
  • Talk to an accident lawyer. If you’re not sure what to do next, call us at (888) 488-1391 for a free session. Our skilled accident lawyers are ready to help you. We’ll assist you with insurance claims and help you file a personal injury claim if necessary.
