Pedestrian Accident Statistics
At some point in the day, everyone is a pedestrian, whether walking to work, school, or a nearby store. Unfortunately, pedestrian injuries and fatalities remain a serious concern. In 2023, 7,314 pedestrians were killed, and more than 68,000 pedestrians were injured across the United States. These numbers highlight the ongoing risks that pedestrians face, often due to distracted driving, poor road conditions, or other unsafe behaviors.
To help reduce these numbers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) raises awareness about the dangers pedestrians face and provides safety tips. These tips include using crosswalks, staying visible, avoiding distractions while walking, and following traffic signals. By staying informed and vigilant, both pedestrians and drivers can play a part in making the roads safer for everyone.
