DUI Accident Statistics
Alcohol-impaired driving continues to be a major safety concern on U.S. roads. The National Safety Council reported that 12,429 people died in alcohol-related crashes in 2023. This represents a 7.6 percent decrease from the previous year, marking a positive trend for the second consecutive year.
A crash is classified as alcohol-impaired when at least one driver or motorcyclist involved has a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 grams per deciliter or higher. This is the legal limit in most states, and exceeding this threshold makes driving both dangerous and illegal.
