A bicyclist was fatally struck by an SUV on Interstate 5 in National City on Wednesday morning, August 6, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. near the mouth of the Sweetwater River, near Mile of Cars Way.
A southbound BMW X3 struck the unidentified male cyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the bicyclist has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities stated that alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
