DUI Accident Statistics
Alcohol-impaired driving remains a leading cause of deadly and serious injury crashes on California roads. In 2023, 1,355 people died in alcohol-related accidents, which is a 4.5 percent decrease from 2022 but nearly a 55 percent increase compared to 2014.
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) promotes programs based on the Safe System framework. By addressing multiple risk factors and implementing layers of protection, OTS works to improve safety for everyone on California roads.
