One person was killed, and several others sustained minor injuries in a fiery four-vehicle crash in Sunnyvale late Wednesday afternoon, January 29, 2025. Speed was likely a factor.
According to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, the deadly collision occurred at approximately 5:07 p.m. in the area of Lawrence Expressway and Lochinvar Avenue.
When first responders arrived, they found one vehicle overturned and fully engulfed in flames, trapping the driver inside. Unfortunately, emergency personnel were unable to rescue them due to the intense fire. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Occupants of the other involved vehicles suffered only minor injuries and remained at the scene, cooperating with authorities.
Officials believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash. The expressway was shut down between Benton Street and Homestead Road for several hours as authorities investigated.
The Sunnyvale DPS is urging witnesses to come forward with any information related to the crash by calling (408) 730-7110.

What To Do After Getting Injured In A Reckless-Driving Accident
After a traffic accident, make sure everyone is safe, but only if it is safe for you to do so. Call 911 right away if someone needs medical help. Don’t move a person who is unconscious or has back or neck pain unless their life is at risk, such as from a fire or an approaching car. After making safety your top priority, here’s what you need to do to protect your health and your right to compensation:
- Call and inform the authorities if there are any deaths, serious injuries, or major property damage. Ask for the names of the cops who came to the accident. Get a copy of their crash report later on, as it can help support your claim.
- Exchange names, driver’s licenses, and insurance details with those involved, but don’t take responsibility for the crash. Take photos of all the cars involved, as well as any damage, skid marks, and injuries. Ask for the witnesses’ names and contact details.
- See a doctor even if you feel okay. Showing a strong link between your injuries and the crash can make your case stronger.
- Call Arash Law at (888) 488-1391 for a free review of your case. We can assist you in getting accident records and other documents, talking to insurance companies, and submitting a personal injury claim. Without a lawyer, don’t sign any papers, accept a settlement offer, or give a recorded statement to insurance agents.
