What To Do After A Pedestrian Accident

A pedestrian accident can be a traumatic experience, but knowing what to do next is crucial for protecting your health and legal rights. If you’re physically able, taking the right steps can help ensure your safety and strengthen your claim for compensation.

  1. Ensure Your Safety — Check for any injuries. If possible, move to the side of the road to avoid further harm.
  2. Report The Accident — Contact the authorities to report the accident. An official police report will be an important document for your claim. In emergency cases, call 911.
  3. Gather Evidence — Try to photograph the accident scene, your injuries, and other damages. If possible, collect contact information from the driver and nearby witnesses. These can serve as vital evidence for a personal injury claim.
  4. Avoid Admitting Fault — Be careful with what you say at the scene or to insurance companies. Even casual statements can be used against you.
  5. Seek Medical Attention — After the accident, go to the hospital for a more thorough check-up, even if your injuries seem minor. Documenting injuries is critical for a personal injury claim.
  6. Consult A Pedestrian Accident Attorney — Contact a personal injury lawyer with experience in pedestrian accidents to discuss your case.
