Following a car accident, it is crucial to understand what steps to take to obtain the compensation you deserve and protect your well-being. These actions can significantly impact your settlement and recovery. Our car accident attorneys in Sacramento County recommend the following:

  1. Prioritize Safety — Check yourself and others for injuries first. Move your vehicle to a safe location if possible. Call 911 immediately and wait for emergency responders.
  2. Gather Necessary Information — Exchange information with the other drivers involved in the accident while you await 911 responders or the police. Make sure you have their names, phone numbers, insurance information, and license plate numbers. If any witnesses were present, make sure to get their contact information as well.
  3. Seek Medical Attention — Even if you don’t feel injured after a car accident, you should see a doctor. Early medical treatment can prevent further complications from some injuries that are not immediately apparent. Maintain a record of all medical care you receive and follow up with your healthcare provider to ensure your injury gets properly documented.
  4. Notify Your Insurer — Following an accident, contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Even if the other driver is at fault, your insurance coverage may be necessary to cover damages, especially if the at-fault party is underinsured or uninsured.
