Remember, the decisions you make immediately following the crash can significantly impact your health and the compensation you may be entitled to. We recommend taking the following steps:
- Ensure Safety — One of the most important responsibilities after an accident is to keep everyone safe and avoid pileups. Turn on your hazards and move your car to the side of the road. If someone needs immediate medical attention, dial 911.
- Check Yourself For Injuries — Before you help others, take a moment to check yourself for injuries. Keep in mind that adrenaline can occasionally conceal the pain.
- Collect Evidence — If possible, document the scene with photographs and videos. Write down any witnesses’ contact information and collect the other driver’s license, registration, and insurance.
- Get Checked In The Hospital — Even if you feel well after the crash, get checked by the paramedics or go to the emergency room. A medical record may be useful in your case.
- Notify Your Insurance Company — Report the accident to your insurance company. Provide truthful and accurate information about what happened. Stick to the basics and avoid making recorded statements without first checking with your lawyer.
