What To Do After A Two-Vehicle Collision

When a crash results in serious injuries involving both adults and children, the aftermath can feel overwhelming. Knowing what steps to take may help you stay organized and better understand your situation as you move forward.

  1. Prioritize Medical Attention
Make sure all injured individuals receive proper medical care. Some injuries may require continued monitoring or follow-up treatment. Keep copies of medical records, referrals, and discharge instructions.
  2. Request The Police Report
The San Diego Police Department usually prepares a detailed report after a serious crash. You can ask the agency how to obtain a copy. The report may include useful information for insurance or future claims.
  3. Save Any Relevant Information
Hold on to any crash-related photos, medical paperwork, or contact information from others involved. Even small details may become important later.
  4. Track Expenses and Communication
Document all medical costs, transportation fees, and any time missed from work. Keep records of conversations with insurance companies or anyone connected to the incident.
  5. Be Cautious When Speaking With Insurance
If an insurance company contacts you, you are not required to make a decision right away. Avoid giving recorded statements or accepting early offers without first consulting a lawyer.
  6. Speak With A Car Accident Lawyer
A lawyer can help explain what steps may be available based on your specific circumstances. Legal guidance may support you in organizing your records, understanding your rights, and navigating the claims process.
