A woman was killed and two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle crash in rural northern Sutter County on Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at around 1:50 p.m. at the intersection of Live Oak Boulevard and Eager Road.

Authorities said a northbound Hyundai Elantra attempted to turn left onto westbound Eager Road and entered the path of a southbound Honda Accord, causing the two vehicles to collide head-on.

Officers found the Hyundai blocking the northbound lane with major front-end damage. The Honda came to rest in a dirt and gravel area on the southwest corner near the Korean Methodist Church after also sustaining major damage.

The passenger in the Hyundai was transported to Adventist Health and Rideout Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her identity will be released by the Sutter County Sheriffโ€™s Office once the next of kin are notified.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries. The Honda driver was taken to a hospital, while the Hyundai driver declined transport.

CHP stated that drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

During the first half of 2023, an estimated 19,515 people died in car crashes nationwide, a 3.3 percent decrease from the 20,190 deaths reported in the same period in 2022. This marked the fifth consecutive decline in traffic fatalities.

Although drivers traveled 35.1 billion more miles in 2023, the fatality rate still improved. There were about 1.24 deaths for every 100 million miles driven, down from the projected rate of 1.31. These figures suggest that road safety is improving even as travel increases.
