One person was killed and four others sustained moderate to major injuries after a head-on crash in Monterey County on Sunday evening, August 31, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 7:56 p.m. on Old Stage Road just north of Natividad Road.
A red pickup truck with one occupant collided head-on with a silver Nissan SUV carrying five people. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other four occupants were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries ranging from moderate to major.
The pickup truck driver suffered minor to moderate injuries. CHP officials said the truck driver is suspected of being under the influence, though no arrests have been made at this time.
Authorities issued a hard closure of the roadway while investigating the crash. The incident remains under active investigation.
