Truck Accident Statistics
Large trucks play a crucial role in transporting goods, but their size and weight make collisions with passenger vehicles especially dangerous. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), there were 5,375 fatal crashes involving large trucks in the United States in 2023, an 8.4 percent decrease from 2022.
Despite this short-term decline, fatal truck crashes have increased by 43 percent over the past decade. This trend indicates that while there have been temporary improvements, the long-term risk of deadly incidents involving large trucks remains high, underscoring the ongoing safety challenges these vehicles pose on U.S. roads.
